Dennis Helfer (born in Donalda, Alberta) and Elaine Helfer (born in Donalda, Alberta), were his parents. She is from German as well as English descent. She was a student at in the William E. Hay Composite High School situated in Stettler (Alberta). Her sisters Tammy, Tara, and Trena also worked with her at the farm where she worked on her grain. When she was 17, Helfer's modeling agency agent spotted the model while waiting in line at a theater.
